The Nativity scene, the quintessential symbol of Christmas, was first created in Greccio by St Francis of Assisi after his journey to Bethlehem. This year marks its 800th anniversary and, as always, its magic captivates and surprises us.
In Umbria, where the Saint had his origins, the sacred nativity has an even deeper meaning and there are many representations that can be admired each year in various villages.
In particular, in our region, visiting the characteristic villages nestling from one valley to another, one can stop to admire the various artistic representations created by local artisans and immerse oneself in the unique atmosphere of live Nativity scenes that skilfully engage passing visitors with great emotion.
