Three days in umbria to discover the great roman roads of communication
Program
1st day
Arrival in Amelia, guided tour of the rich Archaeological Museum, where is kept the beautiful statue of the Roman general Germanico, prince of Gens Giulio Claudia, father of Nero.
After a delicious taste of one of the most renowned products of Amelia, dried figs, known since Roman times, we continue the visit to the south of the village, among the remains of ancient streets, baths and Roman domus.
Continue for a walk in the historic center to admire the ancient cyclopean walls, then wear helmets protected and go down into the basement, where you can admire the ancient Roman Cisterns, a work of high hydraulic technology designed in the first century BC. C. and used until 1950.
Hotel accommodation, welcome dinner and overnight stay.
2nd day
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the Marmore Falls. Entrance to the park to walk the trails, admire its beauty and discover its history: the ingenious hydraulic intervention of the Roman consul Curio Dentato in 271 BC, allowed the collection of the waters of the Velino, which stagnated in the Sabina (plain Rieti), and put in communication between the two watersheds (Nera-Velino). Free lunch.
In the afternoon departure for the ancient Carsulae near the town of Sangemini. The Roman city built along the Via Flaminia, preserves in the forum area remains of public buildings, two twin temples, the arch of San Damiano, the amphitheater, the theater and the sepulchral remains.
Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
3rd day
Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Visit the city of Narni and the Museo Eroli, guided by the special map "Discovering the Via Flaminia!"
Free lunch. In the afternoon departure for Ocriculum, an ancient Roman settlement: visit the area of the Forum and the Basilica, the imposing monument of the Great Sostruzioni, the Theater, the Baths, a monumental entrance Pylon, a large Nymphaeum, a tract of ancient Via Flaminia overlooked by a round funerary monument and a public source, the Amphitheater, impressive funerary monuments and, to the right of the Roman city, along the Flaminia State Road, the archaic Necropolis (VII century BC).
