The Steelworks
It was established to meet the needs of the newly unified state to provide basic industry, essential to the country's development. The city of Terni was chosen for strategic-military reasons (distance from the sea and borders) and the abundance of hydraulic energy provided by the Marmore Falls and the Nera-Velino system.
Cutting-edge technology and the massive 108-ton hammer became the symbol of the city.
Unfortunately, little remains of the original structure, as it was destroyed by the war or demolished. This includes the octagonal dome of the "great hammer," which was demolished in the 1950s.
